Join Aaron Keck every Tuesday afternoon for Chatham County Roundup, a recurring series that shines the spotlight on Chatham County through engaging discussions and interviews with locals, newsmakers, officials and more.

This week on Chatham County Roundup, join Aaron Keck for a discussion with Chatham County Commissioner Karen Howard about how Chatham is responding to the COVID-19 crisis and the importance of the census to citizens.

“I tell people every day ‘when you go to bed at the situation will have changed the next morning.’ There will be new things,” said Howard. “There are going to be constant adjustments to ensure that we’re doing the best that we can for everybody through this crisis.”

With stay-at-home orders in place and as much of the population as possible practicing social distancing measures, the day-to-day of interaction between citizens and local government has seen significant changes as meetings get cancelled or move online. According to Howard, maintaining public accessibility is of the utmost importance.

“We’re all very much committed to the public having access to our discussion discussions and I’m not doing anything in a way or in a place where they can’t have access if they’re interested,” said Howard.
