There’s a holiday coming up, a day centered firmly on spending time and effort ensuring that a select few people in your life are aware you care about them. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, hopefully you’ve already chosen your intended targets for this year and have plans in place to express your affection. Some of you have expressed some questions and concerns surrounding this particular celebration of “love,” so let’s talk for a bit.
What’s the best Valentine’s Day candy? Is it REALLY chocolate? Or is it the candy hearts?
While I wouldn’t fancy myself too much of a candy expert — it’s not particular to my taste, I’m sure you can appreciate that — my understanding is that while chocolate is traditionally given for Valentine’s, it’s also available year-round. And associated with other holidays. And occasionally consumed as a coping mechanism. In a word: chocolate isn’t all that special. For this reason, I do believe it’s the chalky candy hearts that take the proverbial cake, seeing as they’re only available this time of year. An added bonus to the strangely crunchy little candies is that it’s possible to clearly explain your intent through them. Certainly a bonus, seeing as I’ve never met a human capable of adequate communication.
Is Valentine’s Day a bad idea for a first date?
There’s special significance attached to this day, no? I’m not saying that it’s a bad idea to have a first date, the potential beginning of a romantic relationship, on a day usually reserved for established couples. I’d just recommend being wary of potential implications. There’s a line here: over-mentioning the fact that it’s Valentine’s and you’re on a first date is a one-way ticket to a trainwreck, but not mentioning something so obvious is an elephant large enough to ruin to any room. My main concern is that you might not be able to play it cool enough to pull this off. I suggest practicing on someone you want to date less on the day before Valentine’s as a rehearsal for the main event.
How should all the single people spend their day?
Ideally, all the single people on Valentine’s would form a large group and pair off from there. Since that’s not currently possible, I think it’s in the best interest of all single people to stay where they are, treat themselves nice, and try to forget about all the happy couples around them that are currently finding joy and satisfaction in each other’s company. That same satisfaction, or something startlingly close to it, can be yours with an order to a local Chinese restaurant, that movie you’ve been meaning to get to, and an exceptionally large blanket. Once Valentine’s is over, you will once again be safe to leave your house. Until then, stay put.
What do I get my dog for Valentine’s Day?
Nothing.
