This week’s Yep Roc Artist Spotlight is Chatham County Line, a local band with a brand-new album coming out on May 15, titled “Strange Fascination.” Despite topping the Billboard bluegrass charts with their last three releases, this North Carolina string band is difficult to confine to a single genre, as their upcoming album replaces their often-used banjo with dedicated percussion for the first time in an effort to breathe life and drive their Americana spirit forward. Chatham County Line draws from deep American roots music traditions, and their sound spans a wide array of rock and blues that examines the human condition from a uniquely personal perspective. This new album exhibits the group’s first lineup change since 2001, as well, with the absence of co-founding banjo player Chandler Holt causing a radical shift in their usual style.
