Every other Monday, Aaron is joined at 8:30 a.m. by Tom Jensen, the director of Public Policy Polling, for a longstanding regular segment called “What We’re Thinking,” looking at recent survey numbers and discussing what they tell us about American public opinion – election-related and otherwise.
This week, Tom discusses new numbers showing the GOP presidential race is shaping up just like 2016: Donald Trump doesn’t have majority support among Republican primary voters, but he’s got a big lead anyway because the anti-Trump vote is split among so many different candidates. Ron DeSantis is clearly in second place – but if the anti-Trump vote were to coalesce around one particular candidate, Tom thinks Tim Scott might pose an even stronger challenge.
Also: to what extent might migration matter in 2024, as Americans move from one state to another? Tom says it’s not likely to matter much – but “not much” might be enough to make the difference, in a swingy state like North Carolina.
