Every other Monday, Aaron is joined at 8:30 a.m. by Tom Jensen, the director of Public Policy Polling, for a longstanding regular segment called “What We’re Thinking,” looking at recent survey numbers and discussing what they tell us about American public opinion – election-related and otherwise.

Tom discusses a recent victory for abortion-rights supporters in Ohio, and what it suggests about what to expect (or not expect) in upcoming elections. In a nutshell: Tom says Democrats will probably continue to be successful in 2023, partly because they’re more energized to vote and partly because higher-educated voters – more likely to vote in general – are voting Democratic these days. But it’s too early to tell whether that trend will continue into 2024, because the enthusiasm gap will probably narrow – and if Donald Trump is on the ballot, that will motivate some right-leaning voters who wouldn’t otherwise vote. (We also discuss a recent poll out of Kentucky that shows a strong approval rating for Democratic governor Andy Beshear, even though Kentucky is GOP country.)
