Every other Monday, Aaron is joined at 8:30 a.m. by Tom Jensen, the director of Public Policy Polling, for a longstanding regular segment called “What We’re Thinking,” looking at recent survey numbers and discussing what they tell us about American public opinion – election-related and otherwise.

This week, Tom and Aaron discuss a new PPP survey out of Pennsylvania that shows a plurality of Republican voters supporting Donald Trump for the GOP presidential nomination – and Doug Mastriano for U.S. Senate, though he was handily defeated in a gubernatorial election last year. Tom says that’s part of a nationwide pattern, where Republican voters tend to favor highly conservative firebrands over less vocal but more effective “workhorses,” even though that reduces their chances of winning in the general election. He says that could be relevant in North Carolina – where the GOP’s two leading 2024 gubernatorial candidates are firebrand Mark Robinson and workhorse Dale Folwell.
