State Senator Graig Meyer (D-Orange) stops by with an update on what’s happening in the General Assembly this month. That includes a brand new bill that’s grabbed headlines for numerous provisions targeting LGBTQ students, restricting libraries, and subjecting school superintendents to being fired by a handful of disgruntled parents – though Meyer says it’s not actually likely to pass. (How can you tell when a bill actually stands a chance of passing? Meyer offers some general insights.)
Also: North Carolina takes another anti-LGBTQ turn; medical marijuana stalls out as Tim Moore applies the Hastert rule to the State House; and Medicaid expansion is delayed as Republicans continue debating a budget, two weeks into the new fiscal year.
