Nevaeh Hodge and Derrick Davis join Aaron to discuss the James Cates Scholars program, culminating with a public showcase at the Chapel Hill Public Library on Monday. The Cates Scholars are nine local high school students who have spent the summer researching Chapel Hill’s Black history, including interviews with longtime residents. (The program’s namesake is James Cates, a Black man who was killed by white supremacists on UNC’s campus in 1970.) Hodge is a Carrboro High School student and one of this year’s Cates Scholars; Davis is the co-director of the program.
