In today’s news: voters head to the polls for a runoff election in a contentious race for an open seat on the Orange County School Board, with incumbents Bonnie Hauser and Jennifer Moore squaring off; Moore outpolled Hauser in the March primary, but later stepped down from the board, though her supporters are still campaigning in hopes that the board will appoint a similar replacement if she wins.
In addition: the UNC Board of Trustees votes to eliminate funding for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs on campus, shifting $2.3 million to campus police and public safety instead; trustees also dinged the UNC athletics department for a possible budget shortfall, calling for an internal audit.
