Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Orange County governments have all passed a resolution outlining conceptual plans for the Greene Tract and approving new boundaries for the jointly owned land.
Orange County Habitat for Humanity broke ground on the Weaver’s Grove community on Sunday. The mixed-use development will provide 101 affordable homes, market rate housing and other amenities to the Chapel Hill community.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, the impact on the homeless is increasing. With the federal eviction moratorium set to end October 3, the number of those experiencing homelessness in Orange County is likely to rise.
This weekend community leaders held a march for affordable housing. The “House Us Now” march originated with the Community Empowerment Fund in partnership with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP, the Marian Cheek Jackson Center, EmPOWERment Inc, and the Interfaith Council. It called for affordable housing for community members who make 30 percent or below the area median income.
A UNC substance use disorder treatment program announced a new partnership which will offer affordable housing within the 2200 Homestead Road project. UNC Horizons will break ground on Horizons Homestead in the spring of 2022, providing 32 units for current and past program participants – allowing them to continue their path of recovery.
