R.J. Davis was named the winner of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame’s Jerry West Award on Saturday. The West Award is given annually to the most outstanding shooting guard in men’s college basketball, and Davis is the first Tar Heel ever to take home the honor.

Davis has already been named the ACC Player of the Year, a consensus first team All-American and a finalist for National Player of the Year honors. The senior led Carolina in scoring this season by averaging 21.2 points per game, and his 784 total points scored were the fourth-most ever in a single season by a Tar Heel and the most ever by a UNC guard.

Davis’ three-point percentage of 39.8 was a career high, and he set a new Carolina single-season record with 113 made threes. Justin Jackson is the only other Tar Heel to make at least 100 in a season. Davis scored 30 or more points four times, including a career-high 42 in a home game against Miami in February.

Davis is UNC’s all-time leader in free-throw percentage (85.8), ranks second in made threes (274) and fifth in scoring (2,088 points). He can potentially come back for a fifth and final season in Chapel Hill, but has not yet announced a decision.
