After his dominant performance in a 31-24 win against Wake Forest on Saturday, UNC’s Omarion Hampton was named the ACC Running Back of the Week. It marks the second time this season Hampton has earned the conference honor.

Hampton set career highs in both rushing yards (244) and carries (35). When including his five catches for 16 yards, Hampton totaled 260 all-purpose yards and touched the ball 40 times — more than half of Carolina’s offensive plays against the Demon Deacons. In the process, Hampton became just the third Tar Heel ever with at least three 200-yard outings, and cemented his place as the only Tar Heel to log eight straight games with at least 100 yards.

Saturday’s game also saw Hampton pass both Don McCauley and Kelvin Bryant to move into fifth place on UNC’s all-time rushing list. His touchdown run in the fourth quarter also moved him into a tie for fourth place on the school’s all-time total touchdowns list.

Hampton earned another honor on Tuesday, as he was named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award, which honors the nation’s top running back. The junior was a finalist for the award in 2023.

Hampton and the Tar Heels will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Boston College at 12 p.m.
