Though he won’t be competing in the NCAA Tournament with the Tar Heels, UNC men’s lacrosse alumnus Chris Gray now knows his professional future. Atlas LC of the Premier Lacrosse League selected Gray with the No. 2 overall pick in its college draft Tuesday night, making him the highest UNC draft pick in the history of the league.

Gray, the fourth Tar Heel to be drafted into the PLL since the league’s inception in 2019, will be the tenth UNC alumnus overall in the league.

Between Carolina and his first two collegiate seasons at Boston University, Gray was a four-time finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, given to the most outstanding player in college lacrosse, and a four-time All-American. He is the all-time NCAA leader in points with 401, having broken the record in his final collegiate game at Duke.

Gray’s 2021 season saw him break the UNC all-time single-season points record with 91, including 49 goals (tied for second all-time in a single season at UNC) and 42 assists (fourth all-time). He was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year for that season, and led the Tar Heels to the Final Four.
