UNC men’s lacrosse star Chris Gray nabbed yet another award for his trophy case Tuesday, as USA Lacrosse Magazine named him its Division I Men’s Player of the Week.

Gray almost singlehandedly willed Carolina to a home win over No. 19 Denver on Saturday, scoring a team-high six goals and dishing out a pair of assists in the 17-16 thriller against the Pioneers. He scored the tying and game-winning goals within the game’s final 5:35.

This is the first time Gray has been named Player of the Week this season. He has been one of the main reasons for the Tar Heels’ 5-1 start. Through six games, Gray has 25 goals and 16 assists for a total of 41 points. The next closest teammate has 23 points. Gray has scored at least two goals in each game this season, and 13 total in his last two games. He is on pace to break his own personal record of 91 points in a season, set in 2021.

Gray and the Tar Heels are currently ranked No. 9 in USA Lacrosse’s latest poll. The only ACC team above them, No. 1 Virginia, will visit Chapel Hill for a primetime showdown Thursday night at Dorrance Field. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
