The No. 1 overall seed UNC women’s tennis team completed its Palmetto State pummeling Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, defeating South Carolina 4-0 after beating South Carolina State by the same score in Saturday’s first round.

The Gamecocks made UNC work through a tough doubles point, defeating the team of Cameron Morra and Reilly Tran 6-2, but the No. 2-ranked team of Elizabeth Scotty and Fiona Crawley sealed the point for the Tar Heels with a 6-2 win of their own. Alle Sanford and Carson Tanguilig had won the first doubles match, 6-1.

Like in Saturday’s win, UNC was clinical in the singles portion, winning the first set on five of six courts. Crawley capped off her day with a 6-0 second set win to put UNC up 2-0. Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda weren’t far behind, as both also took straight-sets win to give Carolina the match and advance them into the round of 16.

Carolina is now 26-2 on the season, and will host one more match this coming Friday before the tournament shifts to neutral sites. Like the men’s team, UNC will also face off with Florida. The No. 16 overall seed Gators will come to Cary Tennis Park next week at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to the national quarterfinals in Champaign, IL. The Tar Heels have reached at least the national quarterfinals in the last two NCAA Tournaments.
