The bad news: the UNC women’s tennis team only moved up one spot in the polls after winning their third consecutive ITA national title.

The good news: they moved from No. 2 to No. 1.

The Tar Heels are once again in the top spot in the ITA rankings, taking back a perch they had through the entire 2021 season before falling in the NCAA semifinals.

In addition, six players earned spots on the ITA’s All-Tournament team for 2022: Elizabeth Scotty, Fiona Crawley, Carson Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda in singles, and the team of Alle Sanford and Reilly Tran in doubles.

Carolina has established itself as one of the dominant programs in women’s tennis, having won 69 consecutive regular season matches, ITAs included, going back to the 2019 season.

The program will have this weekend off before embarking on ACC play on February 25 at Notre Dame. The Tar Heels have won 37 consecutive matches within conference play (not counting meetings in ITA or NCAA Tournaments), and five consecutive ACC tournament titles. Their next home match is Saturday, March 5 at 11 a.m. when Virginia Tech visits Chapel Hill.
