The UNC women’s soccer team won its second straight match Sunday afternoon against Boston College, breezing through a 3-0 win over the Eagles. The Tar Heels are now 9-2 overall and 2-1 in ACC play.

All three of UNC’s goals came in a span of less than five minutes of game time, separated by the halftime break. Freshman Kate Faasse struck in the 44th minute to put Carolina on the board, and Tori Hansen and Avery Patterson both scored in the opening four minutes of the second half. For Patterson, it’s her team-leading seventh goal of the season after scoring just five times last year.

The Tar Heels smothered the Eagles in possession, allowing Boston College to take just four shots on the day. By contrast, Carolina took 17, four of which came from Patterson herself.

With the large lead, head coach Anson Dorrance was able to substitute liberally. 27 different players checked in for the Tar Heels, including both goalkeepers. Emmie Allen played the first 56 minutes and made two saves before being pulled for Mar Josephson. Josephson made one save in her 34 minutes of action.

The Tar Heels will now travel up to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech next Saturday night. That road trip is followed up by a three-match homestand, which will conclude UNC’s regular-season home schedule. The final three matches of the slate are all on the road.
