Carolina led by 25 points at halftime and cruised from there to a 93-74 win against Charleston Southern at Carmichael Arena Sunday afternoon. It was UNC’s final non-conference game of the regular season.

The Tar Heel offense was red-hot in the first half, shooting 19-30 (63.3 percent) from the floor and scoring 50 points. Though no Tar Heel reached double figures in the half, nine different players found their way onto the score sheet. Freshman Nyla Brooks continued her strong start to the season with nine points, all of which came on threes. Indya Nivar added eight.

Brooks scored 10 more points in the second half to give her a team-high 19 on the night. Elina Aarnisalo (16 points) and Nivar (14) also reached double figures. As a team, UNC dished out a season-high 22 assists, with Nivar providing six.

For Charleston Southern, guard Tyonna Bailey provided the bulk of the offense with a game-high 31 points. Bailey had only six points at halftime, but then scored 15 in the third quarter alone and added 10 more in the final 10 minutes. She shot 7-10 from the floor after halftime to help the Buccaneers trim six points off the 25-point halftime deficit. Bailey’s 31 points are the most any player has scored against UNC this season.

Carolina is now 11-3 overall as it enters the holiday break and, afterward, the meat of its conference schedule. The Tar Heels will look for their first ACC win when they visit Boston College Monday, Dec. 29 at 8 p.m.
