UNC volleyball coach Joe Sagula is adding to his staff for the upcoming 2021 season, and he won’t have to look far to do it.

Kyle McCormick will step into a new role as Director of Operations after being involved with the program for the past three seasons, and Phoebe Havenaar will join the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

McCormick graduated from UNC in 2021 and worked with the team as a practice player and manager during his time at Carolina.

“Kyle will continue be a great addition in his new role and has helped us make the transition in this important position for this year,” Sagula said. “This experience and familiarity with our staff, players and program has made him a great addition for the season.”

Havenaar spent the previous season as an assistant coach at Davidson College. She played collegiately at in-state Wingate University in NCAA’s Division II. At Wingate, Havenaar was named an All-American in 2018.

“We’re very excited to have Phoebe as part of our coaching staff this year,” Sagula said in a release from Carolina Athletics. “She’s already been a great addition to our pre-season, bringing her experiences as a coach at Davidson last season and as a player at Wingate. In the past year she has established herself as one of the bright young coaches in our profession, committed to learning and growing.”

The volleyball team’s regular season gets underway August 27 against Stephen F. Austin.
