The ACC announced Monday that UNC junior goalkeeper Alec Smir was named the conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Tar Heels’ 2-0 win at Duke last Friday.
Smir saved all three of Duke’s shots on goal and intercepted multiple crosses toward the net, as he racked up his 10th career shutout.
The win over the Blue Devils was also the season opener for Smir and the Tar Heels, who will return to the pitch on Friday for their home opener against Clemson.
