The UNC volleyball team came up short in its attempt at a season-opening upset on Friday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, falling in three straight sets (25-13, 25-18, 25-16) to No. 9 Wisconsin at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

Destiny Cox led the Tar Heels with 13 kills in the match, representing the only UNC player to reach double digits in that category.

Wisconsin dominated the majority of the proceedings on the way to a staggering hit percentage of .420, while holding the Tar Heels to a .067 hit percentage on the defensive end.

It wasn’t quite the way UNC head coach Joe Sagula would have liked to have his team’s season begin, but it was a chance for the Tar Heels to test themselves against one of the nation’s top teams early in the year.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier at the moment, as UNC will now have to face No. 4 Minnesota on Saturday at 8 p.m.
