Beginning with this week’s home football game against Louisville, UNC will be implementing a clear bag policy at Kenan Stadium.
The change is aimed at reducing wait times to get into the stadium, as well as increasing security measures.
UNC suggests that fans leave bags at home if possible, but will still allow certain items onto the premises.
These items include: any clear, plastic or vinyl bag no larger than 12″x 6″x 12″, small clutch purses no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″, and necessary medical items following inspection at entry gates.
Prohibited items include: purses bigger than a clutch bag, coolers, backpacks, briefcases, diaper bags, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags and camera bags.
Fans will still be able to bring blankets, binoculars and cameras into the stadium.
“The safety of our fans is our top priority on game day,” Jeff McCracken, Chief of UNC Police, said in a statement released by the university. “Implementing this policy will allow our security staff to screen bags more effectively and to ensure a safer game day experience for all visitors to Kenan Stadium.”
