After finishing the regular season with a perfect record, North Carolina field hockey (17-0, 6-0 ACC) swept the ACC individual awards for the 2018 season and placed six players on the All-ACC teams.

Senior back and captain Ashley Hoffman was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year and helped anchor a UNC defense that recorded eight shutouts and gave up only 10 goals during the regular season.

Freshman forward Erin Watson was named both ACC Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year after recording 12 goals, 13 assists and 37 points during the regular season and helped to lead a UNC offense that averaged over four goals per game.

In addition, head coach Karen Shelton was named ACC Coach of the Year after leading the No. 1 Tar Heels to a perfect record in the regular season and the top seed in the ACC Tournament. This is Shelton’s 10th time being named Coach of the Year.

Joining Hoffman and Watson on the All-ACC first team was junior midfielder Eva Van’t Hoog, while junior midfielder Yentl Leemans, junior forward Catherine Hayden and senior midfielder Malin Evert were recognized on the second team.

As the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament, UNC will have a bye before taking on the winner of No. 5 Virginia and No. 4 Boston College on Friday, November 2 at Karen Shelton Stadium in Chapel Hill.
