Fresh off their first road victory of the season this past weekend against No. 16 Richmond, the Tar Heels took over the No. 1 spot on Tuesday in the USILA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Poll.

This marks the first time since 2017 that the UNC has been ranked No. 1 in men’s lacrosse. It also gives the Tar Heels the current No. 1 team in both men’s and women’s lacrosse.

Head coach Joe Breschi’s team has sprinted out to a 4-0 record to begin the 2021 season, after going a perfect 7-0 during the shortened 2020 campaign.

The Tar Heels are one spot ahead of arch-rival Duke in the rankings, with another ACC school in Virginia holding onto the No. 3 spot.

All five ACC programs are ranked among the top 10 in the country.

UNC is scheduled to return to action on Saturday with its second game of the season against High Point, having won the first meeting 17-15 back on Feb. 16.
