A pair of standout UNC men’s lacrosse players–junior attacker Chris Gray and senior midfielder William Perry–were each named Tuesday to the final watch list for the 2020 Tewaaraton Award.
The award is the lacrosse equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, honoring the top men’s and women’s college players of the year.
Because the remainder of the season was canceled by the NCAA due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, there will be no final winner of the Tewaaraton
These final watch lists include the best players of the shortened 2020 campaign, and include everyone listed on both the preseason watch list and the first round of new additions made on March 11. In total, 70 players were recognized.
Through seven games, the Tar Heels had compiled a 7-0 record in 2020. Gray led the team in scoring by a wide margin, posting totals of 27 goals and 21 assists in his first season with the team after transferring from Boston University. Perry, meanwhile, had eight goals and four assists as one of just six Tar Heels to start all seven games.
