Preseason accolades continue to roll in for UNC senior linebacker Chazz Surratt, who was named a Preseason First Team All-American by CBS Sports on Thursday.

Surratt is coming off of a huge year in 2019, his first at linebacker after making the rare transition from quarterback prior to the season.

He led the Tar Heels with 115 tackles, while also posting 6.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery–stats good enough to earn him a spot on the All-ACC First Team and a second place finish in ACC Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Already this offseason, Surratt has earned Preseason First Team All-American honors from Street & Smith’s and been named to the watch lists for the Senior Bowl, the Bednarik Trophy, the Nagurski Award and the Butkus Award.

There was some speculation that he may opt out of the upcoming season when his brother, Wake Forest wide receiver Sage Surratt, chose to do so earlier this week.

It was then confirmed that Chazz Surratt will be suiting up for the Tar Heels if they play in 2020, as he looks to gain more experience at the linebacker position before entering the NFL.
