After closing for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Carolina Basketball Museum on UNC’s campus is officially reopen to the public.

The museum is located on the ground floor of the Ernie Williamson Athletic Center at 450 Skipper Bowles Drive on UNC’s campus in Chapel Hill. It celebrates the history of the University of North Carolina men’s basketball program — from Dean Smith to Roy Williams and everything in between.

Visitors to the museum are encouraged to follow proper social distancing guidelines and hand sanitizing stations are available at several locations. Parking for the museum is in the Williamson Lot across the street from the Smith Center.

Groups of 25 or more are asked to call 919-962-6000 in advance. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays (the museum is closed on Sundays).

The museum includes several historic artifacts from UNC basketball history, including the ball Luke Maye shot to beat Kentucky in the 2017 NCAA Elite Eight en route to UNC’s sixth NCAA title, the shoes Roy Williams wore in the final coaching win of his Hall of Fame career and updated panels and video to illustrate the hiring of Hubert Davis as UNC’s newest head coach.
