A pair of Tar Heels–senior defender Alex Comsia and junior midfielder Mauricio Pineda–were named Wednesday to the College Soccer News Preseason All-American Teams.
Comsia was a First Team selection, while Pineda earned himself a spot on the Third Team.
Entering his fourth full year as a starter for head coach Carlos Somoano, Comsia has been a steadying force in the back for the Tar Heels as they’ve made it to two consecutive NCAA College Cup appearances.
An All-ACC performer in 2017 for his play on the field, Comsia was also the recipient of the Elite 90 Award in 2016– given to the player with the highest GPA at the College Cup.
Pineda, who was ranked the No. 5 recruit in the country before arriving at UNC, scored three goals and tallied one assist last year en route to a Third Team All-ACC nod.
The Illinois native also scored the game-winning goal in the Tar Heels’ victory over UNC-Wilmington in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
