The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday morning the 2021 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament is being moved from Washington D.C. to the Greensboro Coliseum.
In a release from the league, the conference said the decision was made due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. will now host the event in 2024 instead, as Greensboro now gets set to host its record 28th ACC Tournament this season.
Last season, the conference tournament ended without a champion. Due to the coronavirus’ initial outbreak, the ACC canceled its quarterfinal rounds of play after having initially eliminating having spectators in the stands. The conference awarded Florida State the trophy, since the Seminoles were the regular season champions.
This year’s tournament is scheduled to run from March 9-13, 2021.
“The ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament has enjoyed terrific experiences and hospitality at Capital One Arena,” ACC Commissioner John Swofford said. “We look forward to returning to Washington, D.C., and appreciate Greensboro for welcoming and accommodating us during these unique and challenging times.”
