UNC defensive lineman Aaron Crawford–a graduate student–was nominated Tuesday for the 2019 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year award, after missing all but two games last season with a torn PCL and a sprained ACL.

Crawford was expected by many to have a breakout season in 2018 as a senior until suffering his knee injury in training camp. Although he returned late in the season, he recorded only one tackle.

So far this season, Crawford has tallied up 17 tackles, two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss through UNC’s first three games–looking much more like the player he was before the injury.

A total of 30 players will be nominated throughout the season for the Comeback Player of the Year honor, with three of the nominees being selected as winners at the end of the season.
