Heels4Life, the name, image and likeness (NIL) collective benefiting members of the UNC football team, partnered with Carrboro-based nonprofit TABLE to package food for more than 800 local children and their families Saturday. The weekend event marked another collaboration between the Tar Heels and TABLE, who last year hosted a donation event with former quarterback Sam Howell.
“It was great to not only help pack the bags for the families in need but also learn about the critical issues so many of them face every day that go unnoticed,” said UNC graduate linebacker Amari Gainer, one of 25 players to participate. “Orange County is special to our team and it’s important to make a lasting impact.”
The North Carolina Hall of Fame also had a hand in Saturday’s event. The event was also sponsored by FLEXTC, which provided the food for players to pack. FLEXTC’s CEO, John Keller, is a former UNC football letterman.
Ashton Tippins, executive director of TABLE, said she was “excited and grateful” to work alongside Heels4Life and the Hall of Fame.
“The student-athletes brought so much energy and fun to Saturday’s shift,” she said. “The bags of food they packaged… will go directly to the kids we serve, providing an immediate impact in these children’s lives. We look forward to our future work with Heels4Life and the NCHOF to bring more awareness to the needs in our community and to TABLE’s mission.”
Heels4Life and the Hall of Fame have also recently partnered with PORCH Communities, which like TABLE seeks to create sustainable hunger relief programs. Heels4Life and PORCH created a student ambassador program to collaborate with high school and college students across the country.
