The UNC men’s soccer team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on Monday afternoon. The Tar Heels will host Furman in the first round at Dorrance Field on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Carolina finished the regular season 9-4-4 overall and 4-3-1 in ACC play. The Tar Heels defeated both Stanford and Duke in true road matches, part of a 4-1-1 record in road environments. UNC finished 5-3-3 at home.

Also representing the ACC in the field are No. 2 overall seed Pittsburgh, No. 8 Wake Forest, No. 9 Clemson, No. 10 Duke No. 11 Virginia, No. 12 SMU and No. 16 Stanford, while UNC and NC State are both unseeded. For a full look at the tournament bracket, click here.

The winner of the opening-round match between Carolina and Furman will face No. 13 overall seed Marshall in the next round, which will be played on Sunday at 2 p.m. on the Marshall campus.

This will be Carolina’s 31st appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 16th in the last 17 seasons. UNC is looking to improve on a run to the national quarterfinals in 2023. The Tar Heels last appeared in the College Cup in the 2020-21 season. Carolina is also seeking its third national title, last having lifted the trophy in 2011.
