The UNC men’s soccer team got a clinical win Friday night against Virginia Tech, defeating the Hokies 2-0 at Dorrance Field. It was the first time the Tar Heels had scored multiple goals since the very first match of the regular season in August.

Fifth-year midfielder Milo Garvanian ran circles around the Hokies all night, assisting on Carolina’s first goal and scoring one of his own in the 67th minute. On the first goal, Garvanian found a streaking Key White with a pinpoint pass through the Virginia Tech defense. White did the rest, shooting the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Garvanian’s goal in the second half was a rocket that looked to initially be saved by the keeper, but ended up bouncing into the net by virtue of its spin. Teammate Ernest Bawa could’ve easily headed the ball in and been credited with the goal, but allowed Garvanian to have the score. It’s the fourth goal of the season for Garvanian, and he and White are the only players on the team with more than two this year.

The win moves the Tar Heels to 5-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in ACC play. Carolina will host VCU in Chapel Hill next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before a difficult stretch of four consecutive road matches.
