The UNC men’s soccer team released its 2022 schedule Thursday, roughly three weeks before its first exhibition match.

The Tar Heels will begin the season with three exhibitions in August: two at home against USC Upstate and Mount Olive, and one on the road at James Madison.

The regular season begins with the two-match Carolina Nike Classic in Chapel Hill. UNC opens its campaign against Air Force at Dorrance Field on August 25, and will conclude the event against South Florida three days later.

Carolina hosts Florida International on September 3, then opens its ACC season against Pittsburgh in Chapel Hill on September 9. The team will have four more non-conference matches spread throughout its schedule, including rare road trips to Elon and William & Mary.

A road match at Duke looms on the night of September 16. The Blue Devils thrashed the Tar Heels, 4-0, at Dorrance Field last season. The Tar Heels will have two challenging matches back-to-back at the end of September: a road trip to 2021 national semifinalist Notre Dame on the 24th, then a home match against defending national champion Clemson on the 30th.

Three of the team’s final four matches are on the road: visits to NC State, Boston College and the aforementioned visit to William & Mary. The Tar Heels will celebrate Senior Night on October 28 at Dorrance Field against Virginia. The ACC Tournament starts the following week at campus sites, with the championship match being held at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The park will also host the NCAA College Cup in December.

The Tar Heels are looking to rebound from a bumpy 2021 campaign, one which saw them fall in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after reaching the national semifinals the previous season.
