A goal from visiting Boston College in the 87th minute was enough for the Eagles to upset Carolina 1-0 at Dorrance Field on Friday night in the regular-season finale. BC had not won a match in conference play entering before Friday’s result.

The Tar Heels dominated possession for most of the evening, holding a 17-4 advantage in total shots. But BC goalkeeper Brennan Klein made six saves to keep Carolina off the scoresheet, and the Eagles took advantage of their one and only shot on goal to break the scoreless deadlock.

The loss drops UNC to 9-3-4 overall and 4-3-1 in league play entering next week’s ACC Tournament. Carolina won just once in its final five conference matches, losing three times and tying once. The seedings for the ACC Tournament will be finalized after all regular-season matches are complete, but Carolina is guaranteed to host a first-round match at Dorrance Field on Wednesday, November 6. A kickoff time is yet to be determined.
