An exciting night of soccer in Raleigh ended in a draw Saturday, as the UNC men’s soccer team and NC State ended 90 minutes of play with the score even at 2-2.

UNC never led in the match, but did find a pair of equalizers after NC State took the lead two separate times. Early in the first half, graduate defender Til Zinnhardt scored less than six minutes after the Wolfpack had jumped in front 1-0. Zinnhardt pounced on a loose rebound in the box after junior midfielder Ernest Bawa sent a free kick toward the NC State net. It was the first goal of the season for Zinnhardt, a transfer from Tulsa.

The Wolfpack took a 2-1 lead before halftime, but it was Bawa who drew the Tar Heels even once again in the second half. Less than 30 seconds after subbing in in the 64th minute, Bawa got on the other end of a cross from Akeim Clarke and sent the ball into the back of the net. Carolina withstood some late pressure from the Wolfpack, who fired five shots in the second half and outshot the Tar Heels on the night, 10-7. UNC goalkeeper Andrew Cordes made a season-high five saves, including three in the second half.

Carolina is now 6-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in ACC play. The match in Raleigh was the first of four consecutive road tilts for the Tar Heels, who will visit Elon next Tuesday at 7 p.m. That match was rescheduled from earlier in October due to Hurricane Ian.
