Another key non-conference date for UNC next season has been finalized.
The Tar Heels will face Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on December 20. A tip-off time will be announced later, though UNC’s game is confirmed to be the first of the day’s doubleheader.
This will be the 12th year UNC has participated in the CBS Sports Classic. The Tar Heels are 7-4 overall in the event and 3-0 against Ohio State, having last met the Buckeyes on December 17, 2022. Carolina emerged victorious with an 89-84 overtime win in Madison Square Garden that evening, thanks to a Pete Nance buzzer-beater which tied the game at the end of regulation. Overall, UNC has a 13-3 record against Ohio State.
This year’s edition of the CBS Sports Classic is different from previous years, as UCLA has exited the event and been replaced by St. John’s. The Red Storm will face Kentucky in the day’s second game. Should the event’s normal rotation hold, UNC would be set to play St. John’s during the 2027-28 season.
The game will be a homecoming for incoming freshman Caleb Wilson, a five-star forward originally from Atlanta. Wilson played his prep basketball for Holy Innocents Episcopal School, located in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs.
Tickets and travel packages for the CBS Sports Classic will go on sale in August. Fans who are interested in attending can register to receive alerts at this link.
