
The preseason ACC basketball polls are out, and both the UNC men’s and women’s basketball teams have been picked to finish third in the conference.
On the men’s side, the Tar Heels received one first-place vote and are behind only first-place Duke (44 first-place votes) and second-place Miami (five) in the poll. Virginia, which received one first-place vote, and Clemson round out the league’s Top 5.
Individually, fifth-year center Armando Bacot earned a spot on the All-ACC first team. Bacot received 50 of a possible 51 first-place votes. He’s joined on the team by Duke’s Kyle Filipowski, Clemson’s P.J. Hall, Virginia’s Reece Beekman and Miami’s Norchad Omier. Bacot came in second in the voting for ACC Preseason Player of the Year, behind Filipowski.
Freshman guard Elliot Cadeau was a runaway selection for ACC Preseason Rookie of the Year, receiving 40 of 51 total votes.

On the women’s side, the Tar Heels again received one first-place vote to slot in at third place. Carolina is behind first-place Virginia Tech (45 first-place votes) and second-place Notre Dame (14). The Hokies are coming off a Final Four appearance last spring. Louisville, which received one first-place vote, and Florida State round out the Top 5.
Guard Deja Kelly and wing Alyssa Ustby each earned spots on the preseason All-ACC team after being named to the first team last season. In addition, Iowa State transfer Lexi Donarski was named to the five-player Newcomer Watch list.
