The UNC field hockey team rebounded from its second loss of the season with a 4-1 win at Syracuse on Friday afternoon. The Tar Heels are still a perfect 4-0 in ACC play.

After a scoreless first quarter, Carolina took over in the second with goals from Charly Bruder (her team-leading ninth of the season) and Sanne Hak in a span of less than six minutes. They were UNC’s only two shots of the quarter. Ryleigh Heck added a goal in early in the third quarter, and Katie Dixon tipped in an assist from Heck two minutes into the fourth to seal the win.

Despite the lopsided score, it was a relatively quiet day offensively for the Tar Heels, as the Orange outshot Carolina on the day. It’s the first time since October 7, 2022 that the Tar Heels have been outshot. UNC’s five shots on goal tied a season-low, and its six total shots were by far its lowest output on the year.

Maddie Kahn continued to impress in the cage, making three saves and playing all 60 minutes. The Lehigh transfer has made at least two saves in four consecutive games and now has 29 on the season. She’s allowed just nine goals in 11 games.

Carolina is now 10-2 overall on the season and will be back in action on Sunday when it visits Albany at noon.
