The UNC men’s basketball program will not host its annual “Live Action with Carolina Basketball” event in the Dean Smith Center this year. The event had traditionally served as a way to usher in the men’s and women’s basketball seasons.
In lieu of “Live Action,” the men’s program has several exhibitions scheduled for the 2024 preseason. The Tar Heels will play in a Blue-White intrasquad scrimmage in Cherokee on Sunday, October 13 at noon in the Harrah’s Cherokee Resort Event Center. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, September 20.
Carolina will also take part in exhibitions against Memphis and Johnson C. Smith. The first, against the Tigers, is part of the inaugural St. Jude Tip-Off Classic. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15 at Memphis’ FedExForum at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU. All ticket sales will benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
UNC’s final preseason exhibition will take place in the Smith Center, as the Tar Heels will host Johnson C. Smith on Sunday, October 27. The regular season officially tips off on Monday, November 4 when Carolina hosts Elon.
“Live Action with Carolina Basketball” was formerly known as “Late Night With Roy” during head coach Roy Williams’ tenure. Inside Carolina has reported waning interest in continuing the event, in favor of options which maximize name, image and likeness opportunities.
