HOUSTON, TEXAS- No. 1 UNC baseball took a 2-1 win over No. 12 Rice yesterday in the Astros Foundation College Classic in Houston, Texas—-but the victory didn’t come without a fight.
Rice took the first run in the bottom of the second inning, before the Heels knotted things up in the seventh. UNC’s Chaz Frank ultimately scored the game winner in the eighth.
UNC pitcher Kent Emanuel pitched for seven innings and allowed eight hits in addition to the one run; he also tallied five strikeouts over the course of the game. Rice starting pitcker Austin Kubitza didn’t make things easy for the Heels, hitting nine strikeouts and also lasting for seven innings.
The Heels remain undefeated at 8-0. Next up, they’ll take on California Saturday at 1:00 in the afternoon, Eastern time.
