The Diamond Heels achieved a season-high ranking of No. 3 in the latest D1Baseball.com poll, which was released Monday morning.
UNC is coming off a 3-1 week which saw the Diamond Heels defeat Charlotte at home Tuesday evening and then win two out of three games at Clemson during the weekend. It was Carolina’s first series win at Clemson since 2012. The series win helped move the Diamond Heels up three spots in the rankings from their perch at No. 6 last week.
UNC is now 30-6-1 overall and 13-5 in ACC play on the season, one of just three teams in the nation with 30 wins. The other two sit atop the D1Baseball poll: No. 1 UCLA (33-2) and No. 2 Georgia Tech (30-5). No. 4 Texas (27-7) and No. 5 Georgia (29-8) round out the poll’s top five teams. Also representing the ACC in the Top 25 are No. 8 Florida State (24-11), No. 9 Virginia (26-11) and No. 24 Boston College (26-12). Coastal Carolina, which sits at No. 7 with a 26-9 record, will visit Boshamer Stadium April 28.
Carolina will have a chance to move up even further in the poll this week. The Diamond Heels host UNC-Wilmington Tuesday night at 6 p.m. before the second-ranked Yellow Jackets visit Chapel Hill this weekend. First pitch in Friday’s opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. With the series pitting the No. 2 team against the No. 3 team, it will be the first time Boshamer Stadium has hosted a top 5 series since 2017.
