
The Diamond Heels are going dancing.
Carolina was named as the No. 3 seed in the Terre Haute regional of the NCAA Tournament Monday afternoon. The Tar Heels will face No. 2 seed Iowa on Friday in the opening game for both teams. No. 1 seed Indiana State is the regional host and will face No. 4 seed Wright State in the region’s other game. First pitch times have yet to be announced.
UNC enters the NCAA Tournament with a 35-22 overall record and a 14-14 record in ACC play. The Tar Heels reached the semifinals of the conference tournament after defeating No. 2 seed Virginia. The Cavaliers are the No. 7 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Carolina’s roster features four All-ACC honorees, including ACC Defensive Player of the Year Vance Honeycutt. Casey Cook was named to the league’s All-Freshman team, while Mac Horvath and Jackson Van De Brake each earned second team all-conference honors.
The Tar Heels have made the NCAA Tournament in each of their three seasons under head coach Scott Forbes. Carolina is hoping to reach its first College World Series under Forbes and first overall since 2018. UNC has never won a national championship in baseball.
Overall, eight ACC teams made the tournament field, including all four schools in North Carolina: UNC, Duke, NC State and Wake Forest. For a full look at the tournament bracket, click here.
