In his last opportunity to play in an official game before this spring’s NFL Draft, former UNC quarterback Sam Howell put up impressive statistics during the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL, on Saturday.

Howell finished 6-9 through the air for 67 yards, while adding 29 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Howell’s rushing ability was on full display for Carolina in 2021. The quarterback rushed for 828 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season, after only rushing for six in his first two years in Chapel Hill combined.

Howell was one of six quarterbacks who accepted invitations to the Senior Bowl, a group which included fellow ACC standout Kenny Pickett from Pittsburgh. Howell’s performance in the week of practice leading up to the game certainly made an impression on scouts and analysts, earning high praise from Pro Football Focus’ Anthony Treash.

Several NFL teams have been named as potential suitors for Howell. The Washington Commanders could potentially reunite Howell with Dyami Brown, while the Denver Broncos could do the same with Javonte Williams. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also all expected to pursue a quarterback in the draft.

The 2022 NFL Draft is scheduled to begin Thursday, April 28 in Las Vegas.
