A second former Ohio State Buckeye will be suiting up for Mack Brown and the Tar Heels next season. Defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan announced his commitment to Carolina Tuesday, joining former Buckeye defensive back Lejond Cavazos, who committed to UNC on Monday.

Cowan will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Tar Heels. He is a former four-star recruit from Providence Day School in Charlotte, and originally committed to Ohio State over offers from Alabama, Michigan and Oklahoma, among others. During his one year with the Buckeyes, Cowan was named an OSU Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten.

“This is truly a full circle moment,” Cowan said in a release from Carolina Athletics. “Not only was I born into and raised by a Tar Heel family, I also took my very first recruiting visit to UNC as an eighth grader.  Since then, the football program has grown a great deal, is in good hands, and is definitely headed in the right direction. I have a long-standing relationship with the staff and players that has never wavered. And, who doesn’t love Coach Mack Brown?”

Cowan will join a defensive line group that could be among the deepest on the roster, despite the loss of Tomari Fox to a suspension. Second team All-ACC honoree Myles Murphy and former five-star recruits Keeshawn Silver and Travis Shaw will join Cowan in the trenches.
