The spoils were shared in the UNC men’s soccer team’s ACC opener, as the Tar Heels fought Virginia Tech to a 1-1 draw in Blacksburg on Friday night.

Both goals came in a span of 5:29 in the second half, though that stretch of game time was interrupted by a weather delay. The stoppage allowed Carolina to catch its breath, and almost as soon as play was restarted, Quenzi Huerman found the back of the net with a rocket from outside the box. The Seton Hall transfer has now scored in four consecutive outings for the Tar Heels when counting the match against American which was stopped in the first half due to weather.

Huerman had a chance to give Carolina the lead just four minutes later, but his shot was blocked. It was the last shot the Tar Heels would take on the night. The Hokies, meanwhile, produced just one shot on goal in the second half. Unfortunately for UNC, that shot on goal just so happened to hit the back of the net.

UNC is still unbeaten on the season at 2-0-2 and will continue ACC play on September 15 against No. 20 Notre Dame in Chapel Hill.
