Cedar Ridge High School announced Tuesday that it has hired Antonio King as its new head football coach entering the 2018-19 school year.

King was previously the head coach at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia before accepting the job at Cedar Ridge, and he has found great success at many of his past stops.

Before taking over at Hargrave, King was the running backs coach at East Carolina University. The job with the Pirates came after he led Hillside High School in Durham to a 72-20 overall record under his watch–a reign that included six conference titles, a perfect 16-0 season and a state championship.

King was also named the PAC-6 Conference Coach of the Year six times during his time at Hillside.

He has a tough challenge ahead of him now at Cedar Ridge, however, as the school previously announced it would not field a varsity football team in 2018 due to lack of participation.

The school will have only a junior varsity team this upcoming season, but King looks to use the time to put his fingerprints on a program looking to make a strong comeback in the near future.

“I fully expect we will be in the playoffs very soon,” King said. “The most uplifting thing is to see the fruit of our labor.”
