As former UNC assistant coach C.B. McGrath fills out his new staff at UNC-Wilmington, the Tar Heel connections continue to grow.
On Friday it was announced Jackie Manuel–a captain on UNC’s 2005 national championship team–will head to Wilmington to serve as an assistant under McGrath.
The 34-year-old held a similar position at Valparaiso last season, after spending four years at UNC-Greensboro working under former UNC teammate Wes Miller.
Now the former defensive specialist will head to the beach in order to rejoin McGrath, who helped coach him during his time in Chapel Hill.
“Jackie was a great player for us at North Carolina and I’m very happy to have him on our staff,” McGrath said, in a statement released by UNC-W. “He’s seen a lot of basketball and knows what it takes to be a winner.
“Jackie works very hard, loves working out with and developing young players, and wants them to be successful,” McGrath added. “He hung his hat on his defense, but he will do anything he can to make the program what it can be.”
