You know LeBron is just messing with the NBA, don’t you?
The best player on the planet, at 33 and playing 40 minutes a game, must be laughing up a storm inside about what his Cleveland Cavaliers are doing. This is the worst Cavs team since 2008, before LeBron left and went to Miami to win his first two NBA rings.
Then he went back to Cleveland and ran his streak of NBA Finals to seven and won another championship. Now he’s getting ready to leave again, maybe to Philly or the Lakers, because he doesn’t think owner Dan Gilbert has surrounded him with enough quality teammates — the reason he left the first time.
Well, so far in the playoffs, the best player is beating better teams. The Cavs bounced the Pacers in seven games when the sports talk gurus like Colin Cowherd said they were going out in the first round. If not, than certainly the second round against the Raptors, who had the best record in the Eastern Conference. So what does James do in the opener of the Eastern semifinals in Toronto? It wasn’t the 45 he dropped in Game 7 on Indiana, but his triple-double of 26 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds was better because it involved his teammates who stepped up to give Toronto nightmares again.
The Raptors are spooked by LeBron, who hit a fall away to send the game into overtime after his team never led. He was all around the basket when the Jurassics had four shots to win it in regulation. You know what? LeBron may get his team to yet another NBA Finals.
If they win this series, and now they have stolen the home court advantage, they get either the injured Celtics or the young Sixers. King James will have his way with either of those teams. LeBron may make another move, but he also looks like he’s having fun pulling off the unlikely.
The Cavaliers have had 22 different players on their 2018 roster, some guys we’ve heard of like Isaiah Thomas and some we’ve never heard of. But despite how long they were with Cleveland, they may be able to say they played with the King during his most memorable season.
The 2008 Cavaliers had a similar record and lost to the Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern semis. That team had 23 different players on the roster, but only one who wore No. 23.
