Have you noticed what’s happening with football on all levels?
I don’t follow high school games, but if so I would probably find out the same thing. The way football is played these days is a little nuts.
It must be the chance to get into a 12-team college football playoff that so many power conference scores are so lopsided that no one seems to have any sympathy anymore for the underdogs.
How about seventh-ranked Tennessee killing Kent State 71-0 and No. 10 Miami beating Ball State 62-0. Don’t they have any third- and fourth-stringers they can put in the game?
Second-ranked Texas finished off UT-San Antonio 56-7 with second string quarterback Arch Manning, who might be better than starter Quinn Ewers. Manning is from that famous family whose brand name has generated $3 million in NIL money for Arch, a back-up.
No. 7 Ole Miss drubbed Wake Forest 40-6 in Winston-Salem and found out after the game that the Deacons are buying their way out of the rematch in Oxford next season because they want to play more Football College Subdivision or mid major opponents.
The 30 power conference schools that have begun the season 3-0 are for the most part beating up on mid-majors and FCS schools. And, frankly, it’s hard to tell if any of them are any good until they start playing each other.
Have you checked out the NFL highlights and lowlights after 2 weeks?
The 2-0 Saints, with rejuvenated quarterback Derek Carr, broke the Cowboys’ 16-game home winning streak by bush-whacking the ‘Boys 44-19 in a game that could be the beginning of the end for Dallas coach Mike McCarthy. And what do you do with the career contract they gave to quarterback Dak Prescott, who is supposed to lead them back to the Super Bowl after a 30-year drought?
The Raiders went into Baltimore and dropped the Ravens to 0-2 that has already made them a long shot for the Super Bowl they were among the preseason favorites to reach.
Supposedly washed-up quarterback Baker Mayfield’s 2-0 Buccaneers beat the Lions in supposedly unbeatable Detroit.
The Packers, who signed Liberty University quarterback Malik Willis on August 27th to play for the injured Jordan Love, beat the Colts with Willis looking like he may never give the job back.
And the Titans, who let Willis go, lost at home to the Jets and 40-year old Aaron Rogers. Tennessee kept a quarterback who has a two-year QB rating of 35, which is really bad, by the way.
And the Vikings, who lost first-round draft pick JJ McCarthy for the season, upset the 49ers behind retread QB Sam Darnold, who as you remember once couldn’t make it with the Panthers.
The Cats could still use Darnold after dropping to 0-2 with struggling Bryce Young under center. In those two losses, the Panthers have been outscored 73-13.
Cra-zy!
